The Operators
Switchboard. Hartford, 1883.
These operators were half of the force required to operate
Hartford's switchboard when it was located at the corner
of Main Street and Central Row. There were about 700
telephones in the city at that time. Miss Laura Palmer,
center, served SNET for 47 years - the first woman to
attain that record of service.
