Margaret Waring Buck has produced a number of self-illustrated books explaining how animals live in the wild. The typical Buck nature book contains detailed black-and-white drawings of the plants, animals, insects and birds to be found in a particular outdoors location, along with an explanatory text ideal for young naturalists who are beginning to learn about the subject. The collection includes manuscript materials and original artwork by Miss Buck for The Face - What it Means, and for several of Miss Buck’s nature books, including Along the Seashore and How They Grow. Collection also includes a wide range of Miss Buck’s personal papers and memorabilia, including a large number of photographs, many dating back to the 1800s. The collection contains images or information on the following families: Buck, Atwater, Waring and Pratchett. Notebooks and newspaper clippings from the 1990-93 period are also present.

The Tomie dePaola collection contains Tomie's art-work, sketch books and paintings from the beginning of his career, as well as many different editions from each book he wrote or illustrated, including foreign editions. Some of the languages represented are Portuguese, Swedish, Finnish, French Canadian, German, Afrikaans, and even Zulu. Original illustrations from books, as well as paintings and other art work spanning from his childhood years are included. The collection also contains marketing items from his books, such as towels, porcelain jewelry containers, music boxes, paper goods (wrapping paper, cups & plates), quilts from schools, and a large selection of Christmas tree ornaments designed by Tomie.

Leonard Everett Fisher, the well-known author and illustrator, was born in Bronx, New York, in 1924. By the time he was in second grade, he was already winning awards for his artwork. After serving in World War II as a cartographer, he attended Yale University’s School of Art where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Arts. His first book, "The Silken Secret", was published in 1954. Fisher’s work covers a broad range, as he writes history, science, biographies, science fiction, legends, and poetry. Mr. Fisher has been honored with such awards as the Joseph Pulitzer Painting Fellowship, the William Wirt Winchester Traveling Fellowship, the Premio Grafico Fiera di Bologna, the 1981 National Jewish Book Award for Children’s Literature, and the Christopher Medal, along with numerous others for his painting, writing and illustrating skills. In addition to authoring over eighty books, and illustrating more than two hundred and sixty, Mr. Fisher has also designed ten United States Postage stamps. Although he is well known and admired for his scratchboard drawings and his black and white acrylic illustrations, he also uses other media. Some of Leonard Everett Fisher’s books include "The Great Wall of China"," Gandhi", "The Seven Days of Creation", "The White House", and his more recent "Cyclops", and "Alexander Graham Bell" (1999).

The Ruth Krauss Papers span the late 1920s to the early 1990s (bulk dates 1950s-1980s) and includes materials pertaining to Krauss's writing for children and for adults, from the earliest stages to final, published works. The collection also includes correspondence and financial records, and some material related to Krauss’s husband David Liesk (Crockett Johnson). The collection, especially in the Children’s Literature series, is incomplete; the papers contain little or no materials pertaining to some of Krauss’s works, especially some of the earlier ones.

The collection contains original art, dummies, manuscripts, proofs, and sketchbooks for approximately sixty books and short stories. There is almost no correspondence. Marshall, who also worked using the pseudonym Edward Marshall, is best known for his series of George and Martha books, in addition to "The Stupids", "Fox", and" Miss Nelson". Furthermore, he has illustrated new versions of many children’s classics, including "Cinderella", "Red Riding Hood", "Hansel and Gretel", and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". In 1989, Marshall received Caldecott Honors from the American Library Association for "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".

The holdings do not include many original watercolors, the collection does contain a wide assortment of supplementary materials used in the design and production of Moser’s children’s books. Since 1987, Moser has illustrated and designed a wide range of children’s books, totalling close to 200 books for his career. Moser has worked with a wide variety of publishers and authors, but as a book designer he takes a leading role in selecting the type and layout for his books, in addition to providing the illustrations. Moser has also written several books on his own and has also adapted a number of classic children’s stories.

The collection contains materials relating to twenty-two books. Mr. Nolan has either written, illustrated or contributed to the design of all of the books represented in the collection. Materials include manuscripts, book plans, revisions, drafts, sketches, some original drawings, dummies, proofs, paste ups, and production proofs (folded and gathered). There is very little finished artwork in the collection (identified as illustrations rather than sketches).

Born in 1927 in New Jersey, Parker is the illustrator of over forty children’s books. His work has been recognized with several prizes: 1970 Caldecott Honor for Pop Corn and Ma Goodness by Edna Mitchell Preston, 1972 American Institute of Graphics Arts Book Show for Liam’s Catch by Dorothy Parker and a 1982 American Library Association Notable Book award for The Whistling Skeleton edited by John Bierhorst. The collection contains the original art for the illustrations in "Aunt Skilly and the Stranger" by Kathleen Stevens.

The Richard Scarry Papers contain materials related to Scarry himself, but the majority of the archives pertains to the creation, production, and distribution of his books for children. The archives contains materials and correspondence concerning Scarry's early work, with Western Publishing and Little Golden Books, beginning in the 1950s. A greater amount of material concerns the works produced by Scarry during his later association with Random House.

The collection contains illustrations and text for approximately eighty books. There is almost no correspondence and several of the titles are missing illustrations. He has illustrated books for numerous authors in addition to himself, among the most notable are James Thurber and Marjorie Weinman Sharmat. His illustrations for Janice May Udry’s "A Tree is Nice" won the Caldecott Award in 1957, and he received Caldecott Honors for his pictures in Ruth Krauss’s "The Happy Day". Simont has also been recognized by the Child Study Association, Society of Illustrators, New York Academy of Sciences, New Jersey Institute of Technology, American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Today Show.

Wynna Wright was born in Chelsea, MA, on 9 November 1899, the daughter of John W. (newspaper editor) and Grace Wright. She graduated from Smith College in 1921. Ms. Wright died 11 March 1980 in Contoocook, NH. The collection contains small pencil, ink and watercolor sketches of women, doll clothes and other small images on cards, envelops and strips of paper.
