This collection contains flyers, venue calendars, fanzines, posters, photographs, LPs, 45s, cassettes, buttons, tee-shirts and ephemera from Connecticut's hardcore punk and skateboarding scene.

Biography

Joe Snow was involved in the Connecticut punk rock and hardcore scene from the early 1980s to the late 2000s. As an amateur photographer, musician, Gordon and Smith sponsored skateboarder, Incas record label manager and record collector, Joe's interests led to a documentation of the music scene over a 20 year period. Joe Lived near Danbury, Connecticut during his show going days and would frequent such venues as Club Esquire, Hotel St. George, Ron's Place, Snakepit, Anthrax Club and other venues frequented by straight-edge hardcore and punk fans. The record store Trash American Style was an important Danbury source for music and scene information. Traveling on occasion to venues in New York and The Living Room in Providence. In the mid 2000s, Joe resurrected the Incas Record label from Lost Generation front man Joe Diaz and pressed several compilation records of previously unreleased tracks.

Scope and content

Collection contains empeheral items of the punk and hardcore scene in Connecticut from the late 1970s to the late 2000s. Materials range from textual graphic materials in zine form, stickers, photographs, show flyers, and set lists to audio recordings on cassette, vinyl and compact disc. Additionaly the collection contains 3 dimensional objects such as teeshirts, buttons and a shoe.

Arrangement

Series I: Show Flyers, Venue Calendars, Distrobution Catalogs Contains xeroxed page sized flyers of various bands playing at multiple venues. In addition, venue issued flyers of show calendars and distro materials for merch and records.

Series II: Stickers and Ticket Stubs Stickers of varying production quality from the do-it-yourself to the union printed glossy bumper sticker. Ticket stubs of larger shows which Joe Snow attended.

Series III: Music Zines Collection of small and kitchen table press fanzines from various locations in the United States.

Series IV: Incas Records Records relating to the punk label Incas Records, established by Badbob Therrien and Joe Diaz of Lost Generation.

Series V: Band Promotion Photographs and flyers promoting bands for record labels and gigs.

Series VI: Newspapers Various newspaper titles with punk rock content.

Series VII: Artifacts 3d objects with ephemeral value in punk rock culture.

Series VIII: Audio Various formats of media containing home recordings and studio pressing.

This short film was released in conjunction with the book Everybody's Scene: The Story of Connecticut's Anthrax Club by Chris Daily (C11535). Based on interviews and personal archives, this 5 minute video describes the famous hardcore venue Anthrax Club in Stamford and Norwalk, Connecticut.
