Abstract: Collection contains artwork, illustrations, correspondence and related materials pertaining to Suse MacDonald, award winning author/illustrator of fourteen children's books as of 2010.

Biography

Suse MacDonald was born 3 March 1940, in Evanston, IL. She attended Chatham College (1958-1960), University of Iowa (B.A., 1962;, Radcliffe College, Art Institute, and New England School of Art and Design. A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Authors Guild, Authors League of America, and Graphic Artists' Guild, MacDonald began her artistic career as a textbook illustrator for Caru Studios (New York, NY, 1964-1969). From 1969 until 1976 she was an architectural designer for MacDonald & Swan Construction (South Londonderry, VT) and then a freelance advertising artist from 1982 to 1985. She has been an author and illustrator of children's literature since 1986.

Arrangement

Series I: Class assignments (undated, 1979-1980, 1997-1999) includes sketches completed as class assignments.

Series II: Children's books (undated, 1986-2002) contains a materials related to books associated with Suse MacDonald arranged chronologically by publication date.

Series III: Project artwork (undated) includes all other materials in the collection that are not identified with the previous two series. Projects include textbook illustration, commerical projects and a few pieces that cannot be easily associated with any of the above.
